Launch Party
They were referring to the party we had on 16th December to celebrate what we’ve come to think of as the “second edition” of Bookoccino, which was first opened in 1992. Last week we moved, only across the street, not wanting to get too far away, into brighter, larger space.
Over a thousand people come through the doors on the day, to mingle with some of Australia’s most prominent writers.
Those who were there won’t quickly forget the ‘in conversation’ between Geraldine Brooks, Richard Flanagan and Richard Glover as they spoke about first falling in love with books, about writing, imagining, and in this time of instant electronic books and international mega ‘stores’, the importance in all our lives of the old fashioned local book store.
It was special to have our great supporter, Tom Keneally, with us and for Sally to read the poem he wrote for Margaret and Roger when they opened Bookoccino.
Some clever person also noted on the day that we had two Pulitzer Prize winners and two Booker Prize winners with us.
It’s difficult for all of us to tell you just how much we value your kind words, your appreciation of Bookoccino’s ‘second edition’ and your heartfelt wishes for our success. So thank you so much for making it a special day to remember. We hope to see you soon.
