Take a walk on the dark side as Bookoccino kicks off our 2026 Events Season with a ‘Crime Night’ featuring award-winning authors, and former journalists, Tim Ayliffe and Michael Robotham. It promises to be a lively discussion about why the crime genre continues to dominate the bestseller charts and what’s behind our cultural fascination with murder.  From TV drama series to true crime podcasts, people can’t get enough of criminal masterminds. From international mystery to outback noir, the genre caters for all. As Michael Robotham says, “It’s not a question of why we write them – it’s why you read them.”

Tim Ayliffe’s latest book, DARK DESERT ROAD is very much ripped from the headlines drawing on real-life events involving sovereign citizens and domestic terrorism. Michael Robotham’s latest THE WHITE CROW is set along London’s East End, featuring a rich gangster and police constable navigating the thin blue line separating her professional work from her notorious crime family.

Bangalley Bar at the Avalon Surf Club is open from 5pm, so come early, purchase a drink and enjoy the view before the event starts at 6pm.
